Alfie and Bernard are 6-7 year old male Shih Tzu cross Chihuahuas. Alfie and Bernard are officially up for adoption. This pint sized duo are the cutest little Shih Tzu cross Chihuahua lads who actually look like Chi sized ewoks. These adorable little bundles of scruffy perfection are great with dogs, cats and small furries. They are housebroken, crate trained, non destructive in the home, walk beautifully on the lead and love nothing more than a cuddle on your lap. They are brothers who were born a year apart.
Alfie is 6 and Bernard is 7. They would be a wonderful addition to any household. Whilst we are not strictly homing them together, it would be nice for them to find a home together. We battle space and time constraints here at Pupcakes HQ, we struggle to place pairs and warn that in the big picture we do not want pairs of dogs lingering at Pupcakes HQ when they could be placed in loving homes separately much sooner. At the same time, dogs in the shelters are literally dying waiting for space to open up here.
Bernard (the smaller one) has only one fault. It is a learned behavior that new adopters will need to be aware of and be prepared to work on. At some point of his life Bernard has learned that if he doesn’t want somebody to do something to him (cut his nails, let a vet examine him etc) all he has to do is scream very loudly and people will stop because they think they have hurt him. Unfortunately this has manifested in him screaming for no reason when he feels uncomfortable in certain situations. It’s not a lot but can sometimes be when someone unfamiliar picks him up or when he’s generally a little bit unsure.
Our vets have examined him and we have come to the conclusion that he is a bit of a wuss. We are teaching him slowly that screaming does not get him the desired result he wants and feel with further work it would diminish completely. Other than that they are the perfect pair; Alfie is wonderful haha. Both boys are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a homecheck, set adoption fee per dog and will be available once they had their dental surgery at our vets to clean their teeth up. They come with 4 weeks free insurance and a voucher for a box of free food.
