Alfie is a 14 year old male Shih Tzu cross Poodle and Toodles is a 10 year old male Chihuahua. Alfie and Toodles are looking for a new home they are adorable and deserve a wonderful retirement home. They were in poor condition on arrival and both have had extensive medical treatment. They deserve the very best home that we can find for them. Alfie has limited sight and has a grade 5 heart murmur, this was untreated prior to his arrival with us and he was symptomatic (coughing and exercise intolerant). His teeth were in very poor condition which again will have been a contributory factor affecting his heart. He had several lumps and warts.
We have removed two large warts as they were sore and scabby and we have also removed a very large cyst from his back as it will have been very uncomfortable for him. He has had a chest x ray to check heart size and ensure we cannot see any tumors – thankfully he x-rays were all clear. His eyes were infected and have also been treated. Alfie was very underweight and we placed him on puppy food and lots of small meals to increase his weight. Toodles was also underweight and his teeth were in shocking condition, the infection has meant that he has very few teeth remaining and to be fair those that do remain have been left to try and maintain his jawbone.
Thankfully this little lad has no heart issues. They would love new owners who are around for most of the day, they take no notice of cats at all so could happily be re homed with dog savvy felines. Due to their ages we would like a home without young children. Alfie and Toodles were not neutered when they arrived, they have been neutered now but may mark a little in their new home initially. Alfie is also on water medication which does mean he tends to pee quite a lot. This is settling though as he is getting used to the medication.
They do enjoy a walk although Alfie is currently on short walks whilst he adjusts to medication and his heart starts to work more effectively. Please don’t overlook this pair as they really are adorable. They are friendly with sweet natures. They need new owners who understand that Alfie may not have lots of time but the time he has needs to be spent with people who adore him and will ensure he gets lots of cuddles and the best of care. A quieter home would be best for this pair of boys so that they can be pampered.
Alfie and Toodles have been neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, had dentals, wart and cyst removal, and are both up to date with flea and worming treatment. We will be happy to share vet history with successful applicants and to discuss at length the implications for Alfies heart. They are currently being fostered in Basingstoke Hampshire.
